A clip on tie is a permanently tied tie and is easy to spot for its "perfect knot"

They are primary worn by children who cannot tie a tie.

However those with disabilities may not be capable of tying a standard necktie so therefore wearing one is appropriate.

A fully capable adult wearing one of these can give the impression of being unsophisticated or lazy if worn to a formal occasion.

There are certain occupations where wearing a clip on is considered necessary for personal safety, such as law-enforcement.

That way there is less of possibility of officers being strangled or pulled by their tie.

Clip on ties are usually only available in limited sizes, and prints, as compared to a regular tie.
